How Tutoring Businesses Run on TuitionDesk in the US — Online, In-Person, Hybrid, Home Tutor & Agency

Seven real operating models, one TuitionDesk dashboard: solo tutors, husband-and-wife teams, fixed-centre classes, home visits, and agencies with 100+ teachers — all billed in USD through Stripe.

The universal setup

From Country of Operation to one parent-facing dashboard

Five steps — exactly what the owner configures in TuitionDesk before choosing which of the seven scenarios below fits their business.

Org setup

Set your Country of Operation to United States

When the owner creates the TuitionDesk organisation, they set the Country of Operation to United States. That one setting switches billing currency to USD, sets Stripe as the payment processor with Cards and ACH as local payment methods, and lets the owner pick their own US timezone and the MM/DD/YYYY date format — configured once per organisation. There's no single national tax rate: TuitionDesk doesn't set a default for the US because sales tax varies by state, so the owner sets whatever rate applies to them.

Scenarios

Pick your scenario — or mix all seven

TuitionDesk doesn't force one business model. In the same organisation, the owner can run students fully online, fully offline at a fixed centre, hybrid, as home-tutor visits, as a single solo tutor, a two-tutor couple practice, or a full tutor agency with many teachers — choosing per batch or even per student.

Sessions & venues

Configure sessions, venues, and check-in per scenario

Every class session has a mode — online, offline, or hybrid — set per session, batch, or schedule. Offline sessions at a fixed centre can be assigned a Venue, such as a room or studio, so TuitionDesk won't let two batches double-book the same space. For home-tutor visits, the session is set to offline with no Venue, and the tutor's geo-tagged check-in and check-out location is what proves the visit happened.

Fees

Collect fees in USD

Fee plans, including EMI/installment options, are billed in USD. Parents pay by card or ACH through Stripe, and the owner sees every payment, due date, and dashboard in one place, regardless of which of the seven scenarios the student belongs to.

Parents

Keep families in sync with the parent portal and notifications

Every parent gets the same parent portal showing fees, attendance, and progress, plus push, WhatsApp, and email notifications for session reminders and fee dues — the delivery mode or business model never changes how a family stays informed.

7 operating models

Seven ways to run a tutoring business in the US on TuitionDesk

From a solo tutor to a 100+ teacher agency — here's exactly what's configured differently for each model, and what stays the same.

Complete online

mode: online Zoom · Meet · Teams USD via Stripe

Every session in the batch is set to mode: online, with a Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams link attached. Students can be anywhere — even abroad — since the batch isn't tied to a physical room. Fees are billed in USD and collected through Stripe (Cards, ACH).

Complete offline

mode: offline Venue assigned Geo check-in/out

Every session is set to mode: offline at your fixed centre, with a Venue — a room or studio — assigned per session so two batches never double-book the same space. Instructor check-in and check-out are geo-tagged for every session.

Hybrid

Online Offline Per-session override

One batch mixes both: some sessions set to mode: online, others to mode: offline, and the mode can be overridden on any individual session — so a student's Tuesday class can be online while their Thursday class is offline at the centre.

Home tutor

mode: offline No venue Geo check-in/out

The tutor travels to the student's own home. Sessions are set to mode: offline with no Venue assigned — the tutor's geo-tagged check-in and check-out at the student's address is what proves the visit happened.

Single tutor

1 owner login Free / Starter

A solo operator — one owner login, often doubling as the only teacher — runs a handful of students on the Free or Starter plan, mixing any of the delivery modes above.

Couple tutor

2 teacher logins Starter

Two tutors, such as a husband-and-wife team or two partners, run the practice together with 2 teacher logins splitting subjects and batches between them — typically on the Starter plan.

Tutor agency

10–100+ teachers Growth / Pro / Enterprise Geo check-in

A larger agency sends 10 to 100+ teachers out to students' homes or teaches them online across a city or state. Each teacher profile carries fixed, per-session, full-time, or part-time pay tracking, with geo-tagged check-in on every visit — typically on the Growth, Pro, or Enterprise plan given the teacher count.

FAQ

Questions about running a US tutoring business on TuitionDesk

Can one TuitionDesk account really run online, offline, hybrid, and home-tutor students together in the US?

Yes. Mode — online, offline, or hybrid — is set per session, batch, or schedule, and home-tutor visits use the same offline mode without a Venue. A single organisation can run all of these side by side, with fees, attendance, and reports combined in one dashboard.

What tax rate does TuitionDesk use for US tuition businesses?

TuitionDesk doesn't set a default tax rate for the US, because sales tax rules vary by state. You set whatever rate applies to your business when you configure fees.

How does TuitionDesk confirm a home tutor actually went to the student's address?

TuitionDesk captures a geo-tagged check-in and check-out location when the tutor marks attendance for a home-tutor session, so the owner can see where the tutor checked in and out relative to the student's address.

Can two batches double-book the same room at my centre?

No. When a session is assigned a Venue — such as a room or studio — TuitionDesk won't let another session be scheduled in that same venue at the same time.

Which TuitionDesk plan fits a solo tutor versus a 100+ teacher agency?

A single tutor usually fits the Free plan (up to 10 students, 1 teacher) or Starter. A couple-tutor practice typically runs on Starter with 2 teacher logins. A tutor agency sending many teachers to homes or teaching online across a city or state usually needs Growth, Pro, or Enterprise, with fixed, per-session, full-time, or part-time pay tracking per teacher.
