Which Chapters Have Never Been Tested? A Report That Answers It
Revision progress and test progress tracking turn 'I think we covered that' into a list — which topics need revision, which were revised, and which chapters have never been examined.
Ask a coaching centre owner "has every chapter been tested this term?" and the honest answer is usually a shrug. Teachers know their own classes. Nobody has ever had to add it all up — until a parent asks, or a board exam covers a chapter nobody quizzed.
TuitionDesk's Topic Coverage Report already tracked which classes had teachers logging what they taught. Two new tabs close the two questions that report couldn't answer: who still needs to revise this, and what have we never actually tested.
The gap this fills
For the owner
- "We've completed the syllabus" is not the same as "every topic was understood." Without a list, a weak chapter is invisible until results come out.
- Parents ask specifically: has my child revised Quadratic Equations since failing that test? There was no record to point to — just a teacher's memory.
For the teacher
- A student flagged Needs revision on a topic (TuitionDesk sets this automatically when a graded test score comes in under 50%) can quietly stay flagged forever if nobody tracks whether the revision class actually happened.
- Building the next test from "whatever feels overdue" instead of "the chapters that have literally never been tested."
For the parent
- No visibility into whether "your child needs to revise this" turned into an actual revision session, or just stayed a comment on a report card.
Revision progress: from flag to closed loop
When a test score comes in under 50% on a topic, TuitionDesk automatically flags it Needs revision for that student — that part already existed. What's new is the loop that closes it:
- A teacher opens the student's profile, finds the flagged topic, and clicks Mark revised — optionally with a short note about what was covered.
- That action is logged with a timestamp and, if it happens more than once, a running count — so "revised once, three weeks ago" and "revised three times this month" read differently.
- The Revision progress tab on the Topic Coverage Report rolls this up centre-wide: how many student-topic pairs need revision, how many have never been revised, how many have been revised at least once.
Marking a topic revised never silently changes its status badge — a topic can be flagged, revised, and re-tested, and each of those stays a distinct, visible fact instead of one number overwriting the last.
Test progress: the chapters nobody has quizzed
The second new tab is simpler and, for a lot of centres, more uncomfortable: which chapters in the curriculum have never had a single graded test?
Every topic your subjects track is checked against whether any assessment has ever been linked to it and graded. The tab splits them into tested vs. never tested — no interpretation needed, just the list.
This is usually the tab that surprises owners the most. A chapter can be "taught" in every class and still show up here as never tested, simply because no assessment was ever built against it specifically.
What to actually do with these two tabs
- Open Reports → Topic Coverage and check Test progress first — pick two or three chapters, build a quick quiz against them this week.
- Check Revision progress — sort by "never revised" and hand that list to the relevant teacher before the next unit test, not after.
- Use the same report's staleness window (30/60/90 days) on the Class coverage tab to catch classes where nobody has logged a topic recently — often the same classes driving both other lists.
None of this requires new data entry. It reads off the tests you're already grading and the classes you're already running — it just adds up what was previously only in individual teachers' heads.
