TuitionDesk Now Works in Any Country — Set Your Currency & Timezone
TuitionDesk now supports any country with a free-text country name, your currency symbol, and full IANA timezone. Fees and scheduling work correctly from day one.
Until today, TuitionDesk had fifteen countries with curated defaults — India, Malaysia, Singapore, UAE, UK, US, Australia, Canada, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, and Pakistan. If your country wasn't on that list, you hit a wall: the country dropdown offered no option, fees defaulted silently to Indian Rupees, and scheduling defaulted silently to Asia/Kolkata. Not degraded — completely wrong, from the first day.
That changes today. TuitionDesk now supports any country.
What "Other country" support actually means
We didn't add a 195-country dropdown with invented defaults. That would have been dishonest — we'd be guessing your tax rate, your timezone, your date format, your academic year start month, and getting some of them wrong in ways that matter (a wrong tax rate on a parent's receipt is not a cosmetic error).
Instead, we did something more useful: we let you tell us the two things that must work from day one.
You set:
- Your country name (free text — "Norway", "Vietnam", "Ethiopia", any name you use)
- Your currency symbol (free text — "kr", "₫", "Br", up to 8 characters)
- Your timezone (full IANA list — ~400 zones, grouped by continent)
TuitionDesk handles the rest:
- Every fee amount, receipt, and invoice displays in your currency symbol
- Every class reminder, fee due-date alert, and scheduled notification fires in your timezone
- The fee intelligence and overdue tracking work correctly in your local currency
- Reports show amounts in your symbol, not ₹
You can also add an optional 3-letter currency code (NOK, VND, ETB) — it appears alongside the symbol on receipts for clarity, but isn't required.
How to set it up
Go to Settings → Academy → Country of Operation. You'll see the existing 15-country dropdown plus a new option at the bottom: 🌐 Other — not listed.
Select it, and a panel appears:
| Field | Required | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Country name | Yes | Norway |
| Currency symbol | Yes | kr |
| Currency code | No | NOK |
| Timezone | Yes | Europe/Oslo |
Fill in your country name and currency symbol (both required), pick your timezone from the full IANA list, and hit Save. That's it.
After saving, the Country of Operation summary shows your chosen symbol, timezone, and a note that tax and payroll are manual — nothing is hidden.
What works correctly once you've set it up
Everything in TuitionDesk that involves money or scheduling reads from your saved settings:
Fees and receipts:
- Fee amounts display with your currency symbol (kr 2,500 instead of ₹ 2,500)
- Receipts and invoices use your symbol and code
- Overdue tracking and fee intelligence work in your local currency
- Manual payments are recorded and displayed correctly
Scheduling:
- Class reminders fire at the correct local time in your timezone
- Fee due-date notifications go out at the right time for your parents
- The "Sent at" timestamp on notifications reflects your timezone
Reporting:
- Monthly collection reports, outstanding dues, and revenue summaries all use your currency symbol
What you need to set up manually
We're being direct about what this release doesn't do:
Tax is manual. TuitionDesk has curated tax logic for India (GST/CGST/SGST), Malaysia (SST), Singapore (GST), and Sri Lanka (VAT). For "Other" countries, the tax label shows "None" and the rate is 0. If you collect a local tax or VAT, add it as a separate fee line item in your fee structures, or adjust your fee amounts to include it. The receipt will show the total you set.
Payroll statutory deductions are not calculated. Statutory payroll calculations exist for India, Malaysia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. For all other countries — including the new "Other" option — payroll runs but does not calculate statutory deductions. Teacher salaries and manual entries work correctly; automatic IN/MY/SG/LK deductions simply don't apply.
Online payment collection is manual. TuitionDesk's online payment gateway (Razorpay for India, Stripe for the other curated countries) is not available for "Other" country organisations. Collect fees offline: cash, bank transfer, local QR, or payment link you share manually. Record each payment in TuitionDesk, and the student ledger updates correctly.
Organisation creation still requires a curated country. When you first sign up, the onboarding flow only shows the 15 curated countries. Create your account with the closest available option, then go to Settings → Country of Operation and switch to "Other — not listed" immediately after. We know this is a friction point — a proper fix to the onboarding flow is next.
Who this is for
This release is a completeness fix, not a targeted expansion. TuitionDesk markets primarily to India and Malaysia. The 15 curated countries cover every market with active payment-gateway and payroll integrations.
"Other" country support is for the tutors and academy owners outside those 15 countries who find TuitionDesk through search or referral and currently hit a dead end — where before, the software would silently impose India's defaults on their account, making every fee display and every reminder fire in the wrong currency and timezone. Now they get a working setup from day one, and we can start measuring how many there are.
Already on one of the 15 curated countries?
Nothing changes for you. The curated country cascade — with all its timezone, tax, date-format, academic-year, and payment-gateway defaults — is completely untouched. The new option simply appears at the bottom of the country dropdown; it doesn't affect existing selections.
