Does TuitionDesk Work in Malaysia? Currency and Payments
How TuitionDesk handles MYR, Stripe payments, SST, and local setup for Malaysian tuition centres — and how it works for any country.
One of the most common questions we get from tuition centre owners outside India is a simple one: does TuitionDesk actually work here? Will it show fees in my currency? Will my parents be able to pay online? Will the dates and times be right?
The answer is yes — and this article explains exactly how, using Malaysia as the example. Everything here applies equally to Singapore, the UAE, the UK, or wherever you run your centre.
It Starts at Signup: Country of Operation
When you create your academy on TuitionDesk, the first thing you set is your Country of Operation. This single setting automatically configures:
| What it sets | What you get (Malaysia) |
|---|---|
| Currency | MYR (RM) |
| Timezone | Asia/Kuala_Lumpur |
| Phone dial code | +60 |
| Tax label | SST |
| Payment provider | Stripe |
| Academic calendar defaults | Jan–Dec |
| Date format | DD/MM/YYYY |
You do not need to hunt through settings pages or configure these individually. Set your country once, and the entire product — fees, receipts, reminder messages, AI features, and reports — uses the right currency and timezone from day one.
Online Payments: Stripe for Malaysia
In India, TuitionDesk uses Razorpay. Everywhere else — including Malaysia — the platform routes online fee payments through Stripe.
Stripe supports:
- Credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard)
- FPX (online banking — Maybank, CIMB, RHB, and others)
- GrabPay and Touch 'n Go eWallet (when enabled on your Stripe account)
- Direct bank transfers
Parents receive a payment link in their fee reminder message and can pay in MYR directly from their phone. The payment is recorded in the student's fee ledger automatically. No manual entry, no chasing.
Setting Up Stripe
- Go to Settings → Payments in your TuitionDesk dashboard
- Connect your Stripe account (or create one — it is free to open)
- Enable the payment methods you want parents to use
- Add your bank account to Stripe for payouts
Once connected, every fee reminder your parents receive will include a Pay Now link. They tap it, complete payment in seconds, and TuitionDesk marks the fee as paid.
Receipts, Tax, and SST
Every payment generates a PDF receipt with your centre's name, logo, student details, fee period, amount in RM, and the applicable tax label (SST for Malaysia). You can email or WhatsApp receipts directly to parents from the payment record.
Fee reminders sent via WhatsApp or email also show the amount in RM — not ₹, not $, but the correct local currency for your centre.
Reports and AI Features in MYR
Every financial report in TuitionDesk — Outstanding dues, Payment summary, Fee Intelligence, and the Analytics dashboard — displays amounts in your org currency. When you open Fee Intelligence and ask "which students are most likely to default this month?", the answer comes back with amounts in RM.
The AI setup wizard (Class & fee setup AI) also picks up your country context — it will suggest realistic fee amounts for Malaysia, not India.
What Is Not Yet Available
To be fully transparent: the TuitionDesk subscription price (what you pay for the software) is currently billed in INR. If you are a Malaysian centre subscribing, you are paying the platform fee in Indian Rupees at the current conversion rate. MYR billing for the SaaS itself is on the roadmap.
Multi-currency per branch — for example, a centre with branches in Malaysia and Singapore collecting fees in different currencies — is also not yet built. Each centre has one currency. For most tuition centres, this is not a limitation at all.
