Does TuitionDesk Work in Canada? CAD, Stripe & HST/GST
How TuitionDesk handles CAD, Stripe payments, GST/HST, and local setup for tuition centres across Canada.
Canada has a large and growing private tutoring market, particularly in cities with high-achieving immigrant communities like Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Mississauga. Parents from Chinese, South Asian, and Korean backgrounds drive significant demand for supplementary education, and centres serving these communities need software that handles CAD, multiple time zones, and professional parent communication.
Here is how TuitionDesk works for Canadian tuition centres.

Online Payments in Canada: Stripe
Stripe has been available in Canada since its early years and is one of the most trusted payment processors in the country.
Stripe in Canada supports:
- Credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard, Amex (universal in Canada)
- Interac Debit — Canada's bank debit network, used by millions of Canadians
- Apple Pay and Google Pay — widely used in major cities
- Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) — Canada's equivalent of direct debit for recurring billing
- ACSS Direct Debit — for bank account debits through Stripe
Pre-Authorized Debit (PAD) is the most effective setup for Canadian tuition centres with ongoing monthly enrolments. Parents authorise once; fees are collected automatically each month. No chasing, no manual invoicing.
Connecting Stripe for Canada
- Go to Settings → Payments in your TuitionDesk dashboard
- Connect Stripe (free to register as a Canadian business)
- Enable Interac Debit, PAD, and cards
- Add your Canadian bank account for CAD payouts
Payouts arrive in your CAD bank account within 2–3 business days.
GST, HST, and Tuition in Canada
Canada's tax structure varies by province:
- Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, Newfoundland: HST (13–15%)
- BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Quebec: GST (5%) + provincial tax
- Quebec: GST + QST separately
However, tutoring and educational instruction is generally GST/HST-exempt in Canada when provided by an individual or through an educational service. Most private tuition centres operate without charging GST/HST on their fees.
If your centre is exempt, TuitionDesk receipts omit the tax line. If you are registered and charge GST/HST, the correct tax breakdown appears on every receipt.
Managing Diverse Curricula
Canadian tuition centres often serve students across multiple provincial curricula, IB, and AP tracks simultaneously. TuitionDesk manages this through batches:
- One batch per subject, grade, or programme
- Separate fees, teachers, and schedules per batch
- Attendance tracked per batch per session
- Students can be in multiple batches
A Toronto centre running Ontario Grade 10 Math on weekday evenings and SAT prep on weekends manages both separately with no mixing of parents, fees, or schedules.
Automated Fee Reminders
Canadian parents are professional and expect professional communication. TuitionDesk's automated reminders go out:
- 3 days before the fee due date
- On the due date if unpaid
- Daily after the due date until settled
All messages show C$ amounts, the student's name, and the month or term covered. Delivery by WhatsApp, email, or push notification.
Canadian parents in major urban centres are highly responsive to email. WhatsApp is widely used among South Asian and Chinese parent communities particularly.
Session Notes for Engaged Canadian Parents
Canadian parents who pay C$50–100+ per hour for tutoring want to know what their child is working on. TuitionDesk's session notes feature lets teachers log what was covered after each class. Parents see it in the parent portal without messaging the teacher directly.
This is a key feature for centres that want to reduce back-and-forth communication while increasing perceived value.
AI Features in CAD
TuitionDesk's AI-powered Fee Intelligence analyzes payment patterns and flags students who may be at risk of not paying. All amounts appear in C$. The analytics dashboard shows batch-level revenue, collection rates, and outstanding dues in Canadian Dollars.
What Is Not Yet Available
- Subscription billing in CAD — TuitionDesk's platform fee is currently billed in INR. Canadian centres pay in Indian Rupees at the current rate. CAD billing is planned.
- Province-specific tax automation — you can configure GST or HST per fee plan, but automatic province-detection is not built yet.
