Does TuitionDesk Work in Bangladesh? BDT, bKash & Setup

How TuitionDesk handles BDT, Stripe payments, bKash, Nagad, and local setup for coaching centres and tuition classes in Bangladesh.

TuitionDesk Team··6 min read

Bangladesh has one of the most tuition-dependent education cultures in the world. From coaching centres in Dhaka's Dhanmondi and Mirpur to private tuition classes in Chittagong, Sylhet, and Rajshahi, supplementary education is considered essential for SSC, HSC, and university admission preparation. The demand is enormous — and increasingly, centre owners want professional management software that goes beyond a notebook and WhatsApp group.

Here is how TuitionDesk works for coaching centres and tuition classes in Bangladesh.

Does TuitionDesk Work in Bangladesh?

Yes. Select Bangladesh as your Country of Operation when creating your academy:

SettingWhat you get
CurrencyBDT (৳)
TimezoneAsia/Dhaka (BST, UTC+6)
Phone dial code+880
Tax labelVAT
Payment providerStripe
Date formatDD/MM/YYYY
Academic calendarJan–Dec
If you selected the wrong country at signup, go to Settings → Academy → Country of Operation to update it. Existing fee records are unaffected; the currency symbol and timezone update immediately.

Online Payments in Bangladesh: Stripe + bKash

Bangladesh has one of the most advanced mobile financial services ecosystems in the world. TuitionDesk uses Stripe for online fee collection, and Stripe in Bangladesh supports:

  • bKash — Bangladesh's dominant mobile money platform, used by over 60 million people
  • Nagad — the government-backed mobile financial service, rapidly growing
  • Rocket (DBBL) — Dutch-Bangla Bank's mobile banking service
  • Credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard (Dutch-Bangla Nexus, BRAC Bank, and others)
  • Bank transfers

bKash is particularly important for Bangladeshi coaching centres: nearly every parent has a bKash account, including parents in smaller towns and rural areas. Accepting bKash payments removes friction and dramatically improves on-time fee collection.

Setting Up Stripe for Bangladesh

  1. Go to Settings → Payments in your TuitionDesk dashboard
  2. Connect your Stripe account (free to register as a Bangladesh business)
  3. Enable bKash and Nagad as payment methods
  4. Add your Bangladeshi bank account (bKash merchant account or bank account) for BDT payouts

Once connected, every fee reminder includes a Pay Now link. Parents tap it, pay through bKash or Nagad in seconds, and TuitionDesk marks the payment automatically.

Cash remains common in Bangladeshi coaching centres. TuitionDesk lets you record cash payments manually — the student's fee ledger updates and a receipt generates automatically. Run Stripe payments and cash recording in parallel.

VAT on Coaching Fees

In Bangladesh, educational services provided by recognised institutions are generally VAT-exempt under the VAT and Supplementary Duty Act. Most coaching centres and private tuition classes do not charge VAT on fees.

TuitionDesk receipts can be configured without a VAT line for exempt services. If your centre charges VAT on any services, the receipt can show the VAT amount correctly.

Confirm your VAT obligations with a Bangladeshi tax advisor or the NBR (National Board of Revenue). Most coaching centres are exempt, but registration status matters.

SSC, HSC, and University Admission Coaching

The Bangladeshi tuition market is heavily exam-driven:

  • SSC (Secondary School Certificate) preparation — Grade 10
  • HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) preparation — Grade 12
  • University Admission Test (VArsity) coaching — engineering, medical, public university entry
  • Primary school enrichment — Grades 1–5
  • English medium / O-Level / A-Level coaching

TuitionDesk handles each as a separate batch — with its own teacher, schedule, fee, and parent group. An HSC Physics batch running daily evenings and a Varsity Admission English batch on weekends are managed completely separately from one dashboard.

Fee Reminders That Actually Work

Collecting fees on time is one of the biggest operational challenges for Bangladeshi coaching centres. TuitionDesk's automated reminders remove the manual effort:

  • 3 days before the due date
  • On the due date if unpaid
  • Daily after the due date until cleared

All messages show ৳ (Taka) amounts, the student's name, and the period covered. Delivery via WhatsApp, SMS push, or email.

WhatsApp is the primary communication platform for most Bangladeshi parents, especially in Dhaka. Enable WhatsApp reminders under Settings → Notifications for the best response rate. For parents without smartphones, use email or SMS as fallbacks.

Session Notes for Parents

After each class, teachers can log what was covered — which chapters, which exam question types, homework assigned. Parents see this in the parent portal without needing to contact the teacher separately. For HSC and Varsity prep centres where parents are closely tracking progress, this is a high-value feature that differentiates professional centres from unorganised ones.

Reports in BDT

All financial reports — outstanding dues, monthly collections, at-risk students — display in Taka (৳). The AI-powered Fee Intelligence feature shows which students are most likely to miss upcoming payments, with amounts in BDT.

What Is Not Yet Available

  • Subscription billing in BDT — TuitionDesk's platform fee is currently billed in INR. Bangladeshi centres pay in Indian Rupees at the current rate. BDT billing is planned.
  • ShurjoPay / SSLCommerz — these are Bangladesh's dominant local payment gateways. TuitionDesk currently routes through Stripe, which supports bKash and Nagad. Direct SSLCommerz integration is on the roadmap.
