Does TuitionDesk Work in Australia? AUD, Stripe & Setup
How TuitionDesk handles AUD, Stripe payments, GST, and local setup for tuition centres across Australia.
Australia has a thriving private tuition industry — from selective school preparation centres in Sydney to ATAR coaching in Melbourne and Perth. Parents here invest heavily in supplementary education, and they expect the same level of professionalism from their child's tutoring centre as from any other service provider.
Here is how TuitionDesk works for Australian tuition centres.

Online Payments in Australia: Stripe
Stripe is one of the most widely used payment processors in Australia. TuitionDesk uses Stripe to handle online fee collection for Australian centres.
Stripe in Australia supports:
- Credit and debit cards — Visa, Mastercard, Amex (near-universal in Australia)
- Apple Pay and Google Pay — very high adoption in Australia
- BECS Direct Debit — for recurring monthly tuition fees (ideal for term-based billing)
- PayID — real-time bank transfer (via Stripe)
- Afterpay — buy-now-pay-later, widely used in Australia (available via Stripe in some configurations)
BECS Direct Debit is particularly useful for Australian tuition centres: parents authorise once and fees are collected automatically each month or each term. This is the most frictionless way to run fee collection for ongoing enrolments.
Connecting Stripe
- Go to Settings → Payments in your dashboard
- Connect your Stripe account (free to create)
- Enable BECS Direct Debit, cards, and Apple Pay
- Add your Australian bank account (BSB and account number) for AUD payouts
Payouts arrive in your Australian bank within 2 business days.
GST on Tuition Fees
In Australia, educational courses are GST-free under the GST Act when delivered by recognised providers for professional qualifications. Most private tuition — supplementary ATAR coaching, selective school prep, enrichment — sits outside this exemption and is subject to GST at 10%.
If your centre is GST-registered, TuitionDesk generates receipts with the correct GST breakdown. If you are below the $75,000 registration threshold and not registered, receipts show the total amount without a GST line.
Term-Based Billing
Australian tuition centres typically bill by school term (4 terms per year, roughly 10 weeks each) rather than monthly. TuitionDesk supports this through flexible fee plans:
- Set fees per term, per subject, or per session
- Due dates aligned to term start
- Automated reminders go out 3 days before each term's fee is due
Parents receive a single fee notification at the start of each term with the full term amount and a Pay Now link. With BECS Direct Debit, they authorise once and never see another manual payment request.
OC Test and Selective School Preparation
A significant portion of Australian tuition businesses serve OC (Opportunity Class) and Selective High School preparation. These programmes are typically time-bound — students attend for 1–2 years before their exam and then leave.
TuitionDesk handles this through batch expiry and student status management. Students are enrolled in a batch, attend sessions, receive session notes, and are archived when the programme ends. Their attendance and payment history remain on record.
Fee Reminders That Australian Parents Respond To
TuitionDesk sends automated fee reminders at three points:
- 3 days before the due date
- On the due date if the fee is unpaid
- Daily after the due date until paid
All messages show A$ amounts, the student's name, and the term or month the fee covers. Delivery is by email, WhatsApp, or push notification.
Australian parents are highly responsive to email and SMS. WhatsApp penetration is lower than in Asia but still meaningful, particularly among parents from migrant communities.
Session Notes for Competitive Australian Parents
Australian parents preparing children for selective school exams are among the most involved in the world. TuitionDesk's session notes feature gives teachers a place to record what was covered, what the student struggled with, and what homework was set. Parents see this in the parent portal without needing to contact the teacher directly.
This sets a professional tone and reduces the volume of individual parent inquiries.
Reports in AUD
All financial reports — outstanding fees, collection by batch, monthly revenue — display in A$. The AI-powered Fee Intelligence feature shows at-risk students and their outstanding amounts in Australian Dollars.
What Is Not Yet Available
- Subscription billing in AUD — TuitionDesk's platform fee is currently billed in INR. Australian centres pay in Indian Rupees at the current exchange rate. AUD billing is planned.
- Afterpay as a built-in option — available via Stripe configuration but not a one-click enable in TuitionDesk's settings UI yet.
