Google Meet + Zoom for Online Tuition Classes — Free with TuitionDesk
TuitionDesk auto-creates Google Meet links free for every online class and supports Zoom. Run online, offline, or hybrid classes from one platform.
Running online classes in your tuition centre used to mean juggling three different tools: your scheduling software, a video call app, and a separate message to share the link with parents. TuitionDesk eliminates all of that. It auto-creates Google Meet links for every online class — for free — and also supports Zoom. Whether your classes are fully online, fully offline, or a mix of both, everything runs from one place.
Google Meet is Now Free for Every Online Class
When you connect your Google account to TuitionDesk and mark a class as Online, TuitionDesk automatically:
- Creates a Google Calendar event for the class
- Generates a Google Meet link inside that event
- Adds the Meet link to the class session in TuitionDesk
- Sends Google Calendar invites to the teacher, all enrolled parents, and students
There is no separate step, no copy-pasting links into WhatsApp, and no remembering to share the meeting ID. The moment you create the class and connect Google Calendar, the Meet link exists and everyone who needs it gets an invite.
Google Meet is completely free to use. You just need a Google account — no paid Google Workspace subscription is required for standard meetings.
How to Set Up Google Meet in TuitionDesk
- Go to Settings → Integrations in TuitionDesk
- Click Connect Google Calendar and sign in with your Google account
- When creating or editing a class (batch), set the mode to Online
- TuitionDesk automatically creates the Meet link when you add a schedule to the class
That's it. Every session under that class will have the same persistent Google Meet room — parents and teachers don't need a new link every week.
What Happens When a Class is Online
Once a class is set to Online with Google Calendar connected:
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Google Meet link | Appears on every session card in TuitionDesk |
| Google Calendar event | Created in your connected Google account |
| Parent notification | Calendar invite sent to parent email on record |
| Teacher notification | Calendar invite sent to teacher's email |
| Schedule email | Meet link included in all session schedule emails |
| Session page | One-click "Join Meet" button for teachers |
Parents receive a proper calendar invite — not just a link in a message. The event shows the class name, timing, and a "Join Google Meet" button directly in their Google Calendar or phone calendar app.
Zoom Support — For Centres That Prefer Zoom
TuitionDesk also supports Zoom for coaching centres that already use it. Instead of using the Google Meet auto-create feature, you can paste a Zoom meeting link directly on any session. It appears on the session page for teachers to share, and is included in schedule notification emails.
When to use Zoom vs Google Meet:
| Situation | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| You already pay for Zoom Pro (large webinars, recording, breakout rooms) | Use Zoom |
| You want zero extra cost and automatic link creation | Use Google Meet (free) |
| You run one-on-one classes and prefer simplicity | Google Meet |
| You run 50+ student live classes with Q&A moderation | Zoom Pro |
| You want calendar invites sent automatically to parents | Google Meet via TuitionDesk |
Both work. Most coaching centres in India running standard batch classes — 5 to 30 students — find Google Meet more than sufficient and appreciate that it costs nothing extra.
Online, Offline, and Hybrid — All in One Platform
TuitionDesk handles every class mode:
Offline Classes (In-person)
Set the class mode to Offline. Sessions show the venue or classroom. Attendance is marked by the teacher using the TuitionDesk app on their phone. Parents get absence alerts when a student doesn't show up.
Online Classes
Set the class mode to Online. Google Meet link or Zoom link is attached to every session. Attendance is marked manually by the teacher after the class. Schedule emails and notifications include the meeting link.
Hybrid Classes
Set the class mode to Hybrid — for centres where some students attend in person and others join online simultaneously. Both the venue and the meeting link are shown on the session.
You can have different batches running in different modes. Your Maths batch can be Online while your Science batch is Offline — each is configured independently.
How This Connects to the Rest of TuitionDesk
The online class feature doesn't exist in isolation. It connects to every other part of the platform:
Scheduling: When you generate sessions from a weekly schedule, all sessions inherit the class mode and Meet link. You don't set up the link per session — it flows automatically.
Attendance: Teachers mark attendance session by session whether it's online or offline. Absence alerts go to parents either way.
Session notes: After an online class, teachers can add what was taught directly in TuitionDesk. Parents see it in the parent portal.
Homework: Assign homework to the batch after an online session. Parents and students see it in the portal with the due date and submission instructions.
Fee collection: Online students pay fees the same way offline students do — through the fee ledger, UPI QR, or Razorpay/Stripe payment links. The class mode doesn't change how fees work.
Parent portal: Parents log in to see their child's attendance, homework, test results, and session notes — whether the class was online or offline.
Common Questions from Coaching Centre Owners
Do I need to pay for Google Meet? No. Google Meet is free. You need a Google account to connect it to TuitionDesk, but you don't need Google Workspace or any paid Google subscription for standard class meetings.
Does TuitionDesk record the class? TuitionDesk does not host or record video. You can record a Google Meet or Zoom session using their own recording features, then attach the recording link (YouTube Unlisted, Google Drive, OneDrive, or Vimeo) to the session in TuitionDesk so students can revise later.
What if I already have a permanent Zoom room link? You can paste the same Zoom link on every session. TuitionDesk doesn't force you to create a new link each time.
Can parents join directly from the calendar invite? Yes. When TuitionDesk creates the Google Calendar event, the Meet link is embedded in the calendar invite. Parents can tap "Join Google Meet" directly from their phone's calendar app — they don't need to open TuitionDesk.
What if I want to stop using online mode for a class? Change the class mode back to Offline in the class settings. The Google Calendar event will be updated. Future sessions will not show a meeting link.
Why This Matters for Indian Coaching Centres
Online tuition has grown significantly since 2020, but most coaching centres still manage it with a WhatsApp group and a manually-shared link. That approach breaks down as you grow — links get missed, parents ask for it at 7 AM, and attendance tracking is informal.
TuitionDesk turns online classes into a structured, trackable operation:
- Every parent knows the Meet link before the first class (calendar invite)
- Every session is recorded in the system (attendance, notes, homework)
- Every absent student triggers an alert
- Every fee is tracked regardless of whether class is online or offline
The video call is the easy part. The hard part is the operations around it — scheduling, reminders, attendance, homework, and fees. TuitionDesk handles all of that, with Google Meet or Zoom as the video layer on top.
